With a background in graphic art, merchandising, and technical design, I believe would make an ideal designer. Developing a knit children’s clothing line at Kaia & Kate, I oversaw fabric direction, garment design, and created the line. Hired as a patternmaker, I defied challenges and earned a leadership design position in the company. My freelance work allowed me to travel to Columbus, OH where I devoted my time to Express, running technical design for men’s woven shirts and assisting in women’s jackets. This experience has allowed me to enhance her skills in the Adobe Illustrator and Web PDM while gaining more knowledge in garment construction and fit. Currently, I work on my private denim bridal gown line that showed at Fashion Week Columbus in 2015 and is showing is 2016. Melissa Koch Bridal has received praise from couture designer David Tupaz and has been featured in publications such as Social Magazine, Big Day, and Columbus Bride. With my line, I develop unique embroidery techniques, researches bridal trends, and works with custom clients to create one of a kind denim gowns. My fashion design education at the Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising has provided me with a detailed foundation in line development, trend forecasting, and fabric knowledge required of a designer.
